Review Summary
In order to remain thin and portable, the ports on the Tab are limited. The bottom has the charging and docking port with a 30-pin design. The top has the power and volume buttons along with a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music or watching videos and movies privately. The battery life on the Samsung Galaxy Tab is strong and, under heavy use, can be expected to last for approximately 10 hours without needing to be charged. Many critics of the Galaxy point to the lack of available applications for Honeycomb, but the market is expanding and many users report they are able to find apps for nearly any task that they need to accomplish. One drawback Galaxy Tab Review discovered with using the Samsung Galaxy is that there is no expansion slot to allow you to add storage capability. This makes it crucial to select the size of the tablet that you need when you purchase it.
It is available in both 16GB and 32GB versions with a choice between Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity or strictly Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi option is less expensive, but limits you to using the online functions only when you’re near an access point. Cons
- Mac Users beware -Galaxy Tab Review established in analysis that the Honeycomb is not great with OS X. At time of print, the device has issues with transferring files from Mac. There are workarounds and supposed software to assist but it is an issue right now. Google need to update AFT…
- No microSD slot – no way to expand memory. Of course, as with any technology, these things get sorted pretty quickly and changes for the better are bound to arise anytime soon.
- Avid camera fans wil be hating the camera on this Tab. The camera is…well, certainly not suited for high quality photographs and more about the 'quick snaps while you think about it crowd'. Certainly not a write home state of the art piece of equipment.

After reading a few reviews, I thought I would post a very early review based on one whole day of using my Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. I’ve rated it overall 4*, which is 5* for the Tab and 3* for a premium price. There are certainly less expensive tablets, but I think this one really does have class-leading features. It’s up to you whether you think the features justify the price or whether you want to wait for the next better-faster-cheaper version.Not much to say about the design, it’s a slab but the build quality is excellent and it feels very solid. I bought this specifically because it’s a 7 form factor, and I wanted portable and pocketable which this delivers. I’ve posted a picture of what’s in the box, it’s just the tablet, charger and cable [see photo on the product page]. Don’t plan on learning much from the manual , which is a tiny little booklet.
One thing I can’t say is whether it has Gorilla Glass like the original Tab. I hope so, but Samsung doesn’t say much as Amazon shipped before the release date heck, Samsung won’t even let me register it yet. The screen quality, brightness and resolution is excellent although I did wind up disabling auto brightness as I thought it kept things a little dark. Easily fixed by manually setting the brightness to about 60%. The auto setting was probably to save battery life, which seems excellent. Charged to 100% this morning, and after a day of light usage (web browsing, wifi on all day, an hour of music listening, dozen or so apps loaded, 15 minutes of navigation) I still have 51% remaining after a day of usage. [11/6] I’m still happy with battery life, but I will say watching Netflix looks like it would only last about 4-5 hours.Honeycomb with this tablet seems extremely responsive, and I didn’t find Touch Wiz intrusive. Actually everything pretty much just works they way you’d hope. GPS and Google Maps worked great, got sat lock in only a few minutes sitting on the passenger seat of the car. Local driving, but Google Maps cached enough that nav worked great. [11/6] In answer to several comments, the GPS works without wifi. Google Maps caches some local coverage, and there are standalone nav apps that have broader coverage. If traffic updates are important, you won’t get them with no wifi.Tried the camera, it’s point-and-shoot cellphone quality but nothing approaching even my Lumix camera let alone a DSLR. The touchscreen is very responsive, and Netflix and Youtube looked great on my home wifi. No problems at all with any of the apps I downloaded, they all ran and looked great. [11/6] One exception is the Pandora which works great but the UI doesn’t seem well suited to the tablet form. If you want to pretend to buy this for work with a clear conscience, I also setup the built-in VPN client and was able to load a free RDP application (Pocketcloud) from the Android market to access our Windows servers just fine.I’ll try and update this review as I’ve had a change to use the Tab. [11/6] I was not able to get the Peel remote app to work it recognized my Panasonic TV but not my Time Warner/Motorola DVR. The setup led to a support email form, so I’ll update again if Peel responds with a fix. But first impressions were that the apps is not really a replacement for something like a Harmony remote in terms of device control. The guide features do look cool so I’m still interested in trying them.If you’re looking for a smaller tablet with all the bells and whistles, I think you’d be happy with this one.
I wanted to wait for Galaxy Tab 8.9, but just diceded to get this since I preferred 7 inch screen for more portability reason. This device is just half the size of iPad. I use this device for watching movies I downloaded which are divx, xvid, mkv codec movies. So far, I haven’t had any problem playing any types of movie files I have. It even plays .mkv file over 3GB. One thing to clarify on the other review is that connecting to PC USB port actually charges (but slowly) somehow status says it’s not being charged. Same thing happen when I connect to an external battery, it slowly charges, but status says it’s not being charged. Pros: -you can watch HD video in original format (divx, xvid, mkv, etc) without conversion. -wifi-only version has GPS (unlike iPad). I installed MapDroyd(lets you download maps) for off-line navigation -full support of Flash (so far, no issues accessing flash sites that I usually visit) -SD card slot (for up to 32GB) -comes with ThinkFree office (you can read .doc .pdf, and etc) -you have choice of 3 app stores (Google Market, Amazon app store, Samsung app store) Samsung app for u.s. version has only few apps now, but hope it grows bigger -portable size you can hold with one hand, and it goes into your pocket -you can connect to any pc to transfer the files (movies, musics, docs, etc) unlike iPad which requires iTunes. Cons: -Reader’s Hub is missing somehow. -Proprietary connector instead of mini or micro USB -most of the apps I installed work fine with the resolution, but a few apps are displayed smaller in the center (for example: Engadget app) So far, I’m very happy with the purchase. I own iPad too, but recently I haven’t really used iPad because this tablet. I wish I get gingerbread upgrade for Galaxy Tab soon.
